And here are some more Camp details:
*Each day will begin with music rehearsal in the Band Room. Whether or not the school system mandates masks, I WILL have musician’s masks available for everyone (percussion will supply their own masks if necessary/desired). If additional PPE, such as brass bell covers and woodwind bags, is recommended or required by HCPSS, I will have enough for every student.
*Stationary members will be dismissed at 5:45, when marching members break for dinner. Those eating dinner must bring their own food.
*Marching members will begin outdoor rehearsal at 6:15 each day. You will need the following at EVERY rehearsal: sneakers (no flip-flops, sandals, etc.), pants with pockets, a bottle of water, instrument, and music. You will be issued a dot book and a bag of chips for marking drill sets on the first day, and these will also be needed throughout our Camp.
*Music needs to be in plastic page protectors and in a 1/2-inch (no larger please) 3-ring binder labelled with the student’s name and instrument. Please place your music in the following order:
warm-up music: Hymn of Acxiom
pregame music: Go Hawks Go, The Star-Spangled Banner
halftime music: Canzon, I Just Want to Celebrate, Chorale and Shaker Dance
stands music: Funkytown, Smells Like Teen Spirit, FBG, Laugh In, Generic Fanfare
postgame music: Alma Mater
How is your music coming along? My recommendation is that you should have everything learned up to tempo by this point. So it is now time to begin memorizing, and I think it would be best to start with “The Hymn of Acxiom.” Remember my hints for memorizing, especially practicing with the recordings!
By now I should have received practice schedules (if they are known) for all of my athletes. Remember that I will need this information to help you navigate any conflicts that may come up between our rehearsals and your sports practices.
Mellophone players - please check the attached roster for details about split parts. I apologize for not indicating assignments for top and bottom notes on the original list, but I have added them.
I know that woodwind players are anxious to sign out “concert” instruments and, again, I will let you know as soon as they return from the shop. As I mentioned in a previous note, if you do not have anything on which to practice your Marching Band music, please contact me immediately.
To all RETURNING Marching Band members - please try on your blue “RHHS Bands” t-shirt. If it no longer fits (or if you have lost it), please let me know that you will need a new one, and I will order the size that you indicated on the Google Form a couple of weeks ago. Note that any replacement shirts will need to paid for by the students. All NEW Marching Band members will receive a shirt at no cost, compliments of our wonderful Band Boosters.
Finally, please take a final look at the attached roster and verify your part assignments and marching status (marching or stationary). If you see anything that doesn’t look right, please let me know.
